9th Singapore National Kendo Championship
By Pheng Hui
On 18 July 2010, the NUS Kendo Club participated in the
9th Singapore National Kendo Championship.
This tournament series is organised by the Singapore Kendo Club and held annually at Changi Japanese School Dojo. Being one of the four large annual competitions between all kendo clubs in Singapore, the Nationals are open to all Singaporeans to prove their skill in a shiai (tournament) setting.
This was my first time taking part in such a large-scale competition, and it is truly an eye-opening experience to be able to see skilled
kendoka giving their all to win the championship. Though I personally did not manage to win my matches, I still feel happy to have had an opportunity to improve myself through sparring with more experienced
kendoka.
After hours of competition, our president, Chee Fung, clinched silver in the Men's Junior category. Congrats! To all
kendoka, I hope you're inspired to train harder to achieve better results in future competitions!
